2017 Genesis G90 design resembles more like G80 having some input from Mercedes-Benz S-class and Audi A8 at rear haunches, taillights and grille respectively. Available in dark blue or brown and four grayscale hues, 19 inch aluminum wheels with all season tires.
G90 comes with 3.3 liter V-6 twin turbo produces 365 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 376 lb-ft at 1300 rpm of torque, while 5 liter V-8 is able to generate 420 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, both paired with eight speed automatic transmission. V-8 takes 5.2 seconds to touch 60 mph from zero, we assume V-6 is not going to take too long time either for same distance.
Eight speed automatic transmission, comes with de rigueur electronic joystick shift lever and steering wheel mounted paddles that responds lazily to inputs. Changes in gear is smooth while upshifts remain quick at times. Comes as rear wheel drive as standard also available is four wheel drive system. V-6 EPA remains 17/24 mpg city/highway while V-8 delivers 15/23 mpg city/highway ratings.
G90 seems a bit longer to Mercedes-Benz S-class, Audi A8, BMW 7-series and Cadillac CT6. Company claims G90 structure to be more lighter but is not true as aluminum is used only for suspension. Brake is responsive providing enough satisfaction. Electric assisted steering is somewhat large and body motions are kept within limits. Sachs/ZF dampers which remains drivers adjustable is unable to provide smooth ride. Four modes Smart, Sport, Eco and Individual can be selected from button available at center console, mode changing indirectly alters dampers and steering firmness, throttle inputs and transmission. Smart setting seems best for throttle input compare to lazy Eco and harsher Sport mode.
G90 cabin comes with good sound suppression along with mood lighting ambiance, power sunroof, supple leather on dash, door,s seats faux suede headliner, stainless steel and real wood aluminum trim. Heated and ventilated (in V-8) seats, nine airbags, power soft close doors, wireless charging pad, 7 inch information screen, 12.3 inch central display with menu layout, 17 speaker Lexicon audio. V-8 has bi xenon LED headlights, ventilation and power adjust ability for rear seating. Best remains rotary controller coming with knobs and button, safety assists as automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind sport monitoring, driver attention alert, semi autonomous adaptive cruise control with lane departure prevention. Not available massaging seats, rear seat entertainment system and sunroof.
G90 with V-6 price starts around $68,000 and V-8 around $80,000.
