Fiesta comes with automatic transmission of dual clutch variety and is not a conventional automatic, meaning gearbox will be stuttering and clumsy due to lack of torque converter. Even older version lacked rapid fire shifts which can be found in high performance vehicles. Practically we prefer dual clutch automatic over CVT i.e. continously variable transmission which can be found in small cars.
2016 SE hatchback produces 120 hp at 6350 rpm and 112 lb-ft of torque upto 5000 rpm using 1.6 liter standard four cylinder engine.
Dual clutch transmission engagement in jolting became less than found in earlier versions. It took 6.7 seconds to touch 60 mph. Curb weight is 2570 pound. EPA rating of automatic is below manual, automatic has 27 mpg and 37 mpg for city and highway respectively which is comparatively low to what other cars has in same segment. Using wide open throttle 30 mpg is possible.
Nicely composed Fiesta with 98 inch wheelbase is a small car and makes ride busy on highway and on rough roads, plus point ofcourse remains price where S sedan is $14,965 and S hatch for $15,265. Decent brake and grip takes 173 foot to stop from 70 mph. Electronic stability system inhibits limit performance despite driver deactivates traction control. Steering gets you enough confidence and is precise dealing with corners.
Limited space is issue in Fiesta, second row do not fold completely flat, front seats are more comfortable but lacks thigh and side supports. Design seems dated, same is case with Sync interface and center screen. Sync 3 comes with navigation and 6.5 inch color display for $795 as option on Titanium and SE trims only, not available on base S model. Poorer rear window visibility in hatchback compare to sedan due to sloping roofline.
Hatchback $300 costlier to sedan, SE hatcback for $16,495 includes USB, 12 volt outlets, seven airbags, telescoping and tilting steering column are standard amenities while SE has more in form of power windows, leather wrapped steering wheel, Ford's MyKey security feature, cruise control, along with Sync 3, cold weather package, appearance uplifts, 123 horsepower turbo inline three engine is to cost extra.
Titanium being top model for Fiesta comes with 16 inch wheels, automatic climate control, leather seating, rearview camera and more is to cost $18,915. Platinum Metallica white Tri Coat paint is for $595 , $490 Sync. Manual ST is available at $21,845.
Ford Fiesta is best value in segment despite not being quickest and biggest but fully competitive to Chevrolet, Kia , Toyota and Honda.
