2016 Nissan Leaf (U.S.)

The Nissan Leaf is an originator among cheap electric vehicles, and its creator deserves abundance of approval for being ahead of the line in transporting this mass-produced, all-electric vehicle to the world. But a lot has changed since the Leaf first arrived in as a 2011 version. Several leading manufacturers now make mass mart EVs for the U.S. mart, including Volkswagen, Ford, BMW, and Kia.

The Leaf has changed with the times, and it’s still a bit ahead of its brand-brand-new contestants in statuses of extent, that all-important maneuver of an EV’s real-world utility. For 2016, the Leaf’s uplevel SV and SL cut stages now come quality with a higher-capability, 30.0-kWh artillery pack that replaces the preceding 24.0-kWh artillery, which is still supplied on the base Leaf S. The brand-new, large artillery affords an epa-evaluated extent of 107 miles, an useful transformation over the 24-kWh Leaf’s 84 miles.

All-brand-new or modified electric vehicles are close from Ford, GM, BMW, Hyundai, and Volkswagen, all of which promise to consign 100 miles of extent or good. The Leaf is the only non-Tesla EV that regions the century evaluation. The Kia Soul EV is next-champion, at 93 miles of evaluated extent, while others such as the Volkswagen e-Golf and Ford Focus Electric—in their actual forms, at least are evaluated at only 83 miles and 76 miles, respectively, on a full charge.

The Leaf’s brand-new artillery lived up to its promise in our education. In mixed riding, including some artillery-sapping freeway durations, we decided a limit riding extent of 100 miles. Inform more things, like a freeway-intensive commute or more intense temperatures, and that amount would decrease, predictably. But if it’s to be steered exclusively around municipality at debased accelerates, it doesn’t seem far fetched to see the Leaf equal, or even beat, the EPA evaluated 107 mile illustration.
